Are you attending a Tea Party on April 15th? We heard there is one scheduled at the Dutchess Stadium Wednesday evening. I'd call first to confirm, but we should all go and let our voices be heard. If you do go please stop back here, drop a comment, and let us know your thoughts about the event. You can also email us some photos!

Dining Out - Alfredos in New City, NY

Hi, I'm your HVWebTV Restaurant Reviewer. My friends and I like to go out to dine---mostly casually---so we're going to share our thoughts with you on various places that we visit. We also invite you to post your own comments and reviews about the places we mention or your favorite places.

So...we stopped by Alfredos in New City for dinner the other night. I haven't been there since it changed over from Bones. It's a small place but the food is very good and once the weather warms up they'll open their outdoor patio for dining.

Our waitress was Janet, a lovely lady who makes you feel right at home. Dinner starts with a loaf of warm bread and seasoned olive oil for dipping. We ordered the Fried Calamari for an appetizer. Their Marinara sauce is delicious, but unfortunately the Calamari was chewy. The pieces were too big and too thick. A fresh garden salad was served before dinner. We both had the Lobster Ravioli for dinner; it was delicious. Except for the Calamari, the dinner was delightful and the service was attentive. For a Thursday night, the place had a pretty good crowd. Many seemed to be regulars.

Prices are reasonable, and they have some early bird specials during the week, before 5 pm if you want to check them out.

By the way...if you want the BEST fried Calamari in Rockland County, so far Pasta Cucina in Stony Point is our choice. Let us know your thoughts on Alfredo's in New City, and the best fried Calamari anywhere in the Hudson Valley!

Bon Appetit!

Unemployed? Dreams can come true...

Are you unemployed? Did you know that New York State will allow you, and even assist you--in starting your own business while you're collecting unemployment? The program is called SEAP Self Employment Assistance Program (SEAP)

State and Federal legislation has established the Self Employment Assistance Program (SEAP) which provides certain eligible individuals the opportunity to start their own businesses while collecting unemployment insurance benefits. In order to be considered eligible for this program, you must first be identified by the State's profiling system as likely to exhaust benefits.

If you've ever had the dream of starting your own business, the department of labor can help you make that dream come true. We spoke to the owner of a local business who started her business in 2000 after being laid off from a job in the...yes...mortgage industry (last real-estate bust). "I submitted my business plan, got approved, and spent my "unemployment" time building my business instead of job hunting," she stated. Combine that effort with guidance from your local SBA office and maybe your dream can come true.

It doesn't have to be a big business...you can take one of your professional or talent skill sets and start a business from home.
"All it takes is talent, experience and knowledge (of the service or product you plan to offer), passion and a dream," stated the business owner. "You can start a business doing just about anything that people need--it doesn't have to be a big business or require a big investment to be successful or produce an income. Many people make a good living right from their home computer, sewing machine, or kitchen table." (She started her business with a paint brush.)

So...visit the website link above and let us know if your business dream comes true! Good luck!
